"Trouw Nutrition is building a stronger safety culture with the ability to grow and adapt. Through increasing safety awareness, we improve our company’s culture, quality and productivity."
A Culture of Safety
Trouw Nutrition’s most valuable assets are our employees, whose efforts have enabled us to achieve the level of success we enjoy today. We live a culture of safety everyday by protecting ourselves and one another.
Safeguarding Our Pets
If you evaluate all the different ingredients that go into pet food, the premix can potentially be the biggest risk to pet food companies. Considering that every metric ton of premix can make 400 metric tons of pet food, which could feed up to 20,000 pets, premix accuracy and safety could be a big risk for pet food companies if they don’t have the right partner.
At Trouw Nutrition, we understand the extent a brand could be damaged if a pet food company was found responsible for harming just one pet. This is why we apply so many resources to our employees and the processes they follow to ensure the safety and quality of our premixes. It’s also why Trouw Nutrition is a partner you can trust.
Keeping Safety at the Forefront
We keep our commitment to safety top of mind with visible and regular reminders. Signs and stickers posted around our facilities remind employees to “Take a Minute” for risk assessment before executing a task. Available throughout our facilities, AWARE cards provide a method of communication for employees to report safety concerns. Delivered right to the inbox of every employee, our monthly newsletters cover a range of topics, including environmental hazards, precautions to take in an office, and more.
Trouw Nutrition’s 8,500 employees across 32 countries celebrate Safety Week on the 44th week of the year. Each country competes to execute the best safety awareness program and the employees vote for the best to win a Safety Award.
Protecting Our Employees
Our employees’ safety is top priority, and we cater our policies for each unique location. In the U.S., we exceed Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards by equipping our plant staff with powered air-purifying respirators (PAPR). Trouw Nutrition supplies all permanent plant workers with steel-toed boots, and all personal protective equipment (PPE) comply with National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) standards.
Employees must scan their badge to gain access to any Trouw Nutrition facility, and visitors and contractors must sign in and complete special training if accessing the building without supervision by a Trouw Nutrition employee.
Safety Training and Education
In compliance with OSHA standards, frequent trainings on everything from electrical safety to slips and falls to bloodborne pathogens educate employees on best safety practices.
Plant employees earn certifications in forklift operations, learn the Lockout/Tagout program to ensure safe execution of electrical equipment, practice dousing an actual fire in the fire extinguisher training program and more.
Employees can elect to participate in Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate (ALICE) training for proactively addressing the threat of an aggressive intruder or active shooter.
At Trouw Nutrition, we place the safety and welfare of our employees, coworkers, contractors, customers, pets and communities above all else. Our commitment to a safe environment and safe products for our four-legged friends separate us from the rest.
