With nearly two decades managing products, people, sales processes and brand positioning, Lewis Mekbel brings a wealth of experience to his role as Territory Sales Manager. In this capacity, Mekbel oversees some of Trouw Nutrition’s key accounts, as well as builds lasting partnerships with pet food manufacturers in the Midwest.
Mekbel began his career at Natura Pet Products as District Manager, developing and driving sales strategies for over 400 retailers and four distributors for nine years, earning him Salesman of the Year honors in 2005 and 2007. After the company was acquired by Procter & Gamble, he transitioned to Account Executive and Financial Analyst to move a pet food brand from pet specialty to big box in just eight months, earning him the Natura Leadership Award and leading to two promotions. In these new roles, Mekbel managed three national cat brands at PetSmart and eventually relocated back to San Diego as the Financial Analyst for P&G at Petco.
Recognizing his talents, Tyson Foods recruited and hired him as a National Sales Manager. With a $10 million trade budget and by nurturing distributor and multistore regional direct buying accounts, Mekbel took the True Chews brand national and international, expanding product placement from 250 stores to over 1,300 in just one year.
From there, a major pet food manufacturer recruited him for the role of Director of Sales. Mekbel built a pet specialty division and launched a new pet food brand. Under his leadership, nearly 1,500 independent retail locations began selling the brand, rapidly growing sales from zero to $3.1 million in under 18 months. Mekbel recently joined the Trouw Nutrition sales team and relocated back to the Midwest with his family.
Mekbel attended California State Polytechnic University-Pomona with an emphasis in Marketing and Business.
