NASC 2020 Virtual Conference

11 June 2020

As a 2019 National Animal Supplement Council (NASC) MVP Supplier Awardee, Trouw Nutrition eagerly participated and asked questions during the NASC 2020 Virtual Conference June 9-11. Watching our speakers in a tiny video in the corner of our computer screen isn’t quite the same as watching them in person on stage, but we made the best of it and enjoyed the quality content and presentations we’ve come to expect from NASC.

Trouw Nutrition eagerly participated and asked questions during the NASC 2020 Virtual Conference June 9-11.

A conference highlight was Jennifer Gornnert’s, Director, New Hampshire Department of Agriculture, Markets & Food, presentation of the Association of American Feed Control Officials’
(AAFCO) ODI (Online Database of Ingredients). ODI makes searching ingredient definitions in the Official Publication (OP) Chapter 6 quick and efficient. All subscribers to the Online version of the Official Publication or the Combo version of the Official Publication receive access to this valuable tool.

“What Shoppers Seek in Pet Supplements” presented by Nicole Hill, Group Strategy Director, Marketplace, another conference highlight, reviewed the findings of a study surveying 578 dog owners. The survey showed 58% of pet parents purchase supplements for General Wellness, followed by Digestive Health (44%), Skin and Coat Health (35%) and Hip and Joint Health (35%). Hill emphasized the importance of understanding your target audience and growing your brand by focusing on your niche, not necessarily trying to reach all pet parents.

For this year’s annual nonprofit fundraiser, the NASC secretly collected donations for one of Bill Bookout’s, NASC President & Board Chairman, favorite charities, Gabriel’s Angels, an organization that brings therapy dogs to abused, neglected and at-risk children in Arizona. Gabriel’s Angels received an incredible $30,000, including a NASC Board match of $10,000 and $1,000 contributed by Trouw Nutrition.

The conference concluded with a virtual happy hour, complete with drink mixing tutorials, trivia and prizes. We thank the NASC for expanding our knowledge of the industry and look forward to participating in person in 2021!
